High Country Crime Stoppers and Boone Police seek the public’s assistance in solving the following crime:

On July 18, 2017, at 3:30 PM, Boone Police Department received a report of a silver pressure cooker that was found on the side of the road near 135 Hardin Street.  Pressure cookers have been used to create improvised explosive devices.  Boone Police, Boone Fire, Watauga Medics, Appalachian State University Police, Watauga Sheriff’s Office and the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office Hazardous Devices Unit responded to the area to investigate.  It was determined that the pressure cooker was not an improvised explosive device.  Boone Police are attempting to determine why the pressure cooker was placed in the manner it was.

While this was not an explosive device it does reinforce the importance of community vigilance. The Department of Homeland Security’s “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign stresses the importance of recognizing things that you know shouldn’t be in a certain area.  If further stresses the importance of reporting people if their behavior doesn’t seem quite right.  If you see something, report it to your local law enforcement agency.  Additional information may be found at https://www.dhs.gov/see-something-say-something.

High Country Crime Stoppers pays rewards for information, which leads to arrests; recovery of stolen property; seizure of drugs and the location of wanted persons.
